Our workshop has been extra busy this year which is good for business but meant our Steinway project was rather at a standstill.
August saw the restringing completed, then attention was turned to keys and action.
Key levelling is the process of achieving perfect level keys when viewed along them. Each key is sighted with a straight edge and paper or card washers of varying thicknesses are added or subtracted to the balance rail The keys sit on the balance rail and by adjusting the height off it with paper washers, the front of the keys rise or fall until a uniform height is acheived.
Again, to get it right takes time and patience.
The next 2 months really were static as far as progress was concerned.
November was a quiet month in the workshop, so I started on the regulation process of the action.
As the whole action was replaced with new,the regulation job was and is time consuming and I have still (at the end of November) not quite completed it.
Hoping to get some time on it now so that hopefully by the end of the year, I will have the piano in playing condition.
All that remains then is refinishing the case parts and the piano finally completed.
To be continued...I will update again in Jan .
